What's missing in your life? If it's a sense of belonging, friendship, "giving back" to society or community camaraderie, we have the place for you - your community's HEROES ("Hometown Efforts to Rescue Our Endangered Society")(a 501c3 nonprofit organization). Simply put it's neighbors helping less fortunate neighbors. (Also see the "About Us" web page/folder for more organizational details.)

The group's main goal is to target MM community persons and organizations, which need physical/fix-it-up support, through a collaborative team comprised of local organizations, businesses and individuals - all to improve our collective community environment and spirit…. through one person/location at a time…

The main objectives are: (1) what's doable with a small team in under 4 hours on a Saturday morning, (2) set support and task priorities: safety, health, convenience, (3) support the most effective efforts/results - which are geared towards cleaning and painting, (4) ensuring the recipients are aware of available support / life-lines… and (5) having an enjoyable time helping others!!!

We are always improving the process, iterating and improving from one event to the next, but we typically plan an event for at most one Saturday of each month, from 0800 to 1130 / noon. You provide a few hours on that occasional Saturday when you can spare the time, and we provide all materials, tools, refreshments, etc… Our main goal is always to make the event enjoyable for the volunteers, as it's the people, YOU, that will make this work. That is, be of immediate benefit to someone in need, truly touch their lives and make a difference - neighbors helping neighbors and getting to know each other at the same time.

If you want to be part of a group that gives the most precious gift of all, TIME, to help those in need in your community, send an e-mail here. (re: also see the other details on the "volunteer" page/folder) and let us know how you can help and the types of skills you can bring (though no special skills are needed - as we welcome ALL levels of support) and any organization you belong to that could also help or leverage what they are doing. This is your chance to be part of an active group that "walks the walk" in community self-help… If you have been thinking about similar ways to help others, or made that your new year's resolution, this is the opportunity to "DO" something and make it happen - take a chance and "just do it" as you will have an enjoyable time as well as lift up the sprits of the needy among us (and get a little exercise to boot).

That's all it takes to become part of our virtual TEAM. Being on our HEROES e-mail list and helping when you can, as it's the collective power of this diverse team that collectively makes this work, albeit with generally different folks each time -which also adds to the fun and fellowship. We are working to find enough needy candidates in advance that we can schedule our events for several weeks, if not months in advance. When we do that, the events will be posted below, but also sent via our e-mail list, so you don't have to do a thing except keep the e-mails you are interested in.

Thanks in advance for any support you can offer, including passing this opportunity to others who may be interested… We guarantee a good time while helping others - we believe in "Hakuna Matata" through helping other less fortunate folks in a friendly, pleasant environment that's primed for results.
