HEROES (Hometown Efforts to Rescue Our Endangered Society), an informal group of “Good Samaritans" that want to help neighbors in need, has completed its first event in Mira Mesa, a cleanup of a local house and yard. According to the recipients, the June 25 effort was a solid success. “We would like to thank the people who helped on the clean up of our yard/house. You can't imagine how much we appreciate what you did for us! We have lived in Mira Mesa our whole lives and have loved living here; we now are raising our kids in the same house we grew up in. Our house needed some major TLC; it is, of course, 35 years old and, as single mothers, we couldn't seem to find the time, muscle, and the resources to do what we needed to do to get the house in tip top and 100% safe for our kids. Then you came along and with your kindness opened a door for our kids’ happiness. God Bless you all for that. We will never forget what you did. You guys really were HEROES!” Click here to see the "Before" and "After" photos. As good as that feedback makes us feel, we know that there are still more folks in need of our collective community support and we must all push forward. We still need people and organizations to help us when and how they can. We welcome all sorts of support but value your time as the most precious gift of all. By joining this community-support effort, you can make a difference with just a few hours of your time a few times a year. Lending a helping hand along with a group of good people is fun as well as very rewarding. We touch the lives of people who may have thought they were alone or forgotten in our community. We also hope to team up with other similar groups to leverage our efforts, as together we’re even more effective. We’d especially like to offer a big thank-you to Sandy Smith (Realty Executives), Maynard Smith, Bill Norris, Beth Davis (Christ the Cornerstone Church), and Stu Smith, as well as Brad Buffet, Mike Davis and Doug Dillard (Mira Mesa Town Council) and the others who helped, including financial support from Sandy Smith, Mike Davis and Doug Dillard in the recent cleanup. Watch for our next events by signing up to our "Volunteer" list. There is no committment for signing up... we will just send you an email letting you know of upcoming events, and if you can help... GREAT! If not, maybe you can help on the next project. We guarantee that you will be kept busy and have a productive volunteer experience, and we offer snacks and beverages, too! Thanks in advance for your support, suggestions, and prayers. |
